A large group of mourners walked out of a prayer service for a four-year-old girl murdered in Brakpan, according to a report.
Those who left the service on Friday were mainly bikers who attended to pay their respects, said The Saturday Star.
They left after a police officer, who opened the prayer service, welcomed national police commissioner Riah Phiyega. A delegation of African National Congress Women's League members were also in attendance.
One of the bikers, Riaan Steenkamp, said as he walked out: "This is not a political thing. It is for a white child that was murdered".
In the service Phiyega said: "It's not a day of big speeches, we wanted to pray together".
Acting Gauteng police commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba said that Phiyega had returned from leave in order to organise the prayer service.
The child was reported missing last Saturday.
Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said on Monday that a member of the child's family had made a confession and led police to the child's body, which was under a bed in her father's flat.
The 23-year-old man appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court on Monday, and the matter was postponed until January 7.
