MPs give Mcbride the nod as IPID boss

JAN 29, 2014 | SAPA

The ANC majority on Wednesday voted to recommend that Parliament appoint Robert McBride as head of the watchdog Independent Police Investigative Directorate

He'll do well. It takes one to know one.

The ANC sets such high standards......

BrothaX
Tell us what we did not already know. The MP’s are there to rubber stamp the ANC NEC decisions. Even if it was Ananias Mathe’s name that was forwarded, the MP’s would have given him a nod regardless of his record.

@BrotherX, so true comrade. This republic we leaving in, only 10 people including Gupta are king makers

PonkoFontoyoMxm
we are led by directionless people.people of SA do not vote for Anc

FarCeSpotter
Hiow shallow is the ANC pond if they have to appoint such characters to leading positions. That being said he apparently did a good job when he was in charge. I just wish there are equally competent people without the colourful history.

Honeybadger
If this man has gone through the normal hiring process and he meets all the requirements then why not. Every one deserves a break every now and then...

Would you hire a security guard who has been to court for breaking and entering to look after your house?

It appears the normal hiring process for all the key positions in the ANC hierarchy is very bad. It filters to catch the scoundrels and corruptors. We have a history of poor appointees within the police's top structures.

DRALEON
What a joke! Will the ANC never learn?

nnmb
The anc seems to be operating with the principle of "It takes a criminal to catch a criminal".

KGS000
Such news don't shock us anymore, who knows the next thing they'll be announcing Krejcir as the new police minister....

KhosanXX
Another one from KZN when will the partying stop in KZN.

!#Sinudeity#!
Typical of the ANC, making a drunkard who defeated the ends of justice chief of IPID.

MorokaLebola
I still stand by my previous view. There is nothing wrong in appointing Mcbride as long as he is qualified for the job. Mcbride does not have criminal record and cleared by the courts. Accusing someone of wrong doing does not make that individual a criminal. Courts have confirmed that. Lets be consistence.

If I had the choice between a two candidates with equal skill, but one had been to court and the other had not I'd take the second one every time and so would you and every other sane person. It's amasing that this is the cANCers best and only candidate.

Funny how quite alot of politically aligned criminals have been cleared by our courts recently. And its always a case of missing dockets or intimidated witnesses. As was the case with McBride.

Laliboy
ECShowerhead is taking us all in a ride to hell, unless we vote these fools aout

ProudlySouthAfrican2014
Maybe McBride will surprise us all and actually do a good job.....................................................But I'm placing no bets...............President Zuma and his Merry Men are nothing if not consistent....Selebi, Cele, McBride.................Our Police Minister could not care what the public thinks - he has his high profile role, his expense account, his blue light convoys, and his Zumafied role model.

MorokaLebola!#Sinudeity#!
I happened to follow Mcbride's case I am quite sure you did the same. Not intending to dwell into the merit of the case itself, don't you think the learned judge would have picked those things you mentioned above and make a rulling accordingly. I hope you do not think the judge himself was influence politically to rule in Mcbride's favour. My point is, if I accuse you of doing something wrong and police arrested you, that does not mean you are a criminal.

The learned judge couldnt make any other call. When witnesses have been tampered with, and suddenly nobody saw McBride drinking, even though they changed their initial declarations, the case will be thrown out. Unfortunately its just another case of political tampering, defeating the ends of justice.

Are you not getting sick of the same old criminals cadre being recycled over and over with no positive effects except their own bank balances?

MtamarazoJa.......
neh this is banana republic country and ruled by criminals.

Whiz
SA is alive with possibilities, just know the right people.

Not who you know anymore. It's what you know about who you know that will secure you a top position.

Phuphethakatha
ANC has no moral standards at all ! No principles ! No pride !

EL-Macho
Welcome back. At least you can pay your debts and live a little.

MminaPhiri

Jozi40

Tikoloshe
It's a bit like putting the fox in charge of the chickens!! This is another highly compromised character of no worth nor moral convictions; much like all those that surround No1!!

TikolosheBrothaX
"The MP’s are there to rubber stamp the ANC NEC decisions......" In order to save the State money and speed up delivery they should only have one ANC MP who sits there and says......"Ja baas Zuma I agree; thanks for the job my big boss sitting bull No 1 showerhead!!!

Cosatu affiliates have given the trade union federation an ultimatum to convene a special congress by the end of March or face "extraordinary measures", including a court action. Top of the unions' demands is the reinstatement of suspended Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi, but it also wants the special congress to discuss the state of the federation. In their first show of force since Vavi was suspended last February, the nine affiliates said their defence of Vavi is based on saving Cosatu from being watered down into an ineffective workers' organisation. "Cosatu is in deep crisis," said the nine unions in a statement read by Samwu's general secretary Walter Theledi. "And denying the scale and extent of the crisis makes matters worse." The nine unions are National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), the Communication Workers' Union, Democratic Nurses Union of South Africa, the Food and Allied Workers' Union, Public and Allied Workers' Union of South Africa, South African Commercial and Catering Workers' Union, South African Football Players' Union, South African Municipal Workers' Union and the South African State and Allied Workers Union. The ANC's invitation to Vavi to serve as its member of Parliament was part of evidence of some "underhanded tactics" to polarise the workers' federation, said Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim. Numsa has assumed the leadership of the disgruntled Cosatu affiliates, who believe the ruling party has got a hand in weakening Cosatu. "It should not happen that the leader of an alliance [ANC] could announce the deployment of a Cosatu general secretary without consulting the federation," Jim said. 'Something weird' Jim said, "something weird happened at the funeral in the Eastern Cape", in reference to the funeral of the late state president Nelson Mandela. "The list conference is currently happening but Vavi is the only one who was deployed at the funeral. The minute he turns that privileged offer down, immediately the following week he's followed by charges." The unions also accused the ANC-led alliance of increasingly marginalising and ignoring Cosatu. "The fact that the government has been able to implement e-tolling, youth subsidies and to backslide on labour brokering and on a progressive economic policy indicates how Cosatu's paralysis and disarray is being willfully exploited." Cosatu campaigned unsuccessfully against all three these issues, and its leaders elected to the ANC national executive committee have been blamed for taking part in anti-worker decisions. The nine unions said there is "evidence suggesting that those within our movement who are hoping to appear on lists for political office are at the forefront of the campaign to neutralise Cosatu, and turn it into a toothless giant". Cosatu's endorsement of the ANC's election manifesto released earlier this month also irked these affiliates. "This took place without any significant mandating engagement with Cosatu affiliates and despite the fact that the manifesto in certain respects, either undermines, or fails to take forward the organisation's demands we do recognise real gains that has been made over the last twenty years." The unions want the special congress to elect a new leadership to "steer Cosatu in the direction". "If the special delegate congress is not called by the end of March, we will have no option other than to pursue the matter through the courts, and to mobilise our members to convene the special national delegate congress to defend our beloved federation," the group's statement said.

Only under the ANC govt do we have anyone, including the president, being invesitigated, we never had that before 1994 because the executive was more powerful than the judiciary. After Mandela was taken to court by the late Louis Luyt, did that disqualify Tata from being president? Tata spent 28 yrs in jail, he was convicted but that did not stop us from electing him president and the entire world hailing him the best statesman of our time. McBride has been found guilty in the court of public opinion by those who still hold a grudge against him for the Magoo bombing, they objected to him being appointed Ekurhuleni Metro Chief long before the recent court appearences. The competent courts cleared him of any wrong doing, yet his haters will not rest until the day he dies. McBride is qualified for the job, did a good job as metro police chief until that fateful afternoon when he capsized his state car. Since when is capsizing a car such an offence that will bar one from holding a job? Nobody died in that accident, he was alone in the car and was not involved in a collision with another vehicle. The witnesses were told to implicate him for them to be set free on cases ranging from attempted murder and perjury. What kind of law is that? Release violent criminals in order to convict someone who rolled his car? Another reason why I will continue voting ANC, the only party that can be trusted to uphold the law so far. Had it been under the DA, McBride would be jobless simply because he rolled a state car. How many state employees are losing their jobs for damaging state vehicles in accidents?

How come it has taken so long for your cyber propaganda committee at Loo-all house to draft that crep of a statement? You drunk as usual? You know of coarse that only die hard party sheeple will by that hogwash?

Typical response from one fat of the milk from the ANC teat. I don't think even the most stupid of people would think putting the fox in charge of guarding the chickens is a good idea so we all know what this is really about, go ahead, Viva Corruption, Viva Murderers, Viva Thieves and rapists Viva!

Why not chief of police or the ministers job? AT LEAST HE WILL NOT BE CAUGHT FOR DRUNK DRIVING ,ALL THE COPS WILL BE TOO AFRAID. xxx THE POSITIVE SIDE IS THAT HE NOW WILL NOW HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE EVERYBODY WRONG.

In the end, he will prove everybody right. Just like Jacob's cabinet has been doing for the past 5 years.

staalin
